Exchange with the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany

Signing of an MoU with the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of NRW

In February 2014 an MoU regarding energy saving, energy efficiency and cooperation in the field of renewable energy has been signed with the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, which had already been cooperating with Fukushima Prefecture in the field of renewable energy for some years. And om January 2017 the MoU has been updated. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is the number one ‚energy state‘ in Germany, supplying and consuming about one third of the whole country’s energy. It is also home to E.ON and RWE, which are two of the big four electric utilities in Germany. The energy transition (German: Energiewende) is promoted also in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and already about 3,400 companies and 24,100 people are engaged in this field of industry.
