When I think “Fukushima,” I think of beautiful scenery—mountains, gardens, and historic parks and samurai training grounds. I think of countless centuries of culture expressed with Akabeko, music, and festivals unique to this area. I think of delicious food. Do not let the way Fukushima has been portrayed in the press discourage you from visiting. In the few months that I have lived here so far, I have seen that it is safe. What is needed most now is revitalization, a greater influx of people, messages and displays of support. This region is beautiful and has so much to offer to those who want to experience the full range of Japanese culture. I highly recommend a visit to Fukushima. You will no doubt have an unforgettable experience.
