The Great East Japan Earthquake is not something that the people of China can just ignore. I’ve visited Fukushima twice as a volunteer, putting effort into encourage the people of Fukushima. During my visits I have fell in love with Fukushima’s beautiful scenery, and its passionate people.

While in China, I feel a great feeling of familiarity whenever I see the word ‘Fukushima’.Talking with the elderly residents of temporary housing in Koriyama, seeing the emergency monitoring of food products at the Fukushima Agricultural Technology Centre, enjoying exchange programs with Fukushima University Students, and visiting many of Fukushima’s famous sightseeing spots including Tsurugajo Castle and Ouchijuku, all these memories are fresh in my mind.

I have not forgotten my promise to Fukushima. After returning home I have told my friends of Fukushima’s beauty and the kindness of its people.

‘Misunderstandings are born from a lack of knowledge’

Believe me when I say that I will continuetospread correct information regarding Fukushima to the people around me, and I will sincerely express the feelings I felt in Fukushima. I will make use of word of mouth to tell as many people as possible of the truth about ‘Utsukushima’(beautiful Fukushima).

During my time in Fukushima I saw many signs that had the words ‘Hopes’and ‘Dreams’ written on them. I saw with my own eyes the efforts made by the people of Fukushima. I believe in Fukushima’s future and revitalization. I know that the people of Fukushima believe in themselves as well, and they are continuing to meet the challenges faced with great confidence and hold hope as they live their new lives.

While I am in China, my heart will always be with Fukushima.

Go Fukushima! Go Japan!

It is my sincere hope that the friendship between Japan and China lasts long into the future.
