Technology to the Future: Fukushima Innovation

掲載日:2020年2月17日更新

Research and development for new technologies is being carried out in Fukushima Prefecture each day. What can we who experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake do for the future of our hometowns and to make the world a better place?
“From Fukushima to the world.”
Fukushima's challenges continue.

Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework
The Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework is a national project that aims to construct new industrial bases in the Hama-Dori area in order to restore the industry that was lost with the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear disaster. In addition to promoting the concrete implementation of projects in robotics, energy, the decommissioning of nuclear reactors, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, the project is taking on the challenges of industrial agglomeration, human resources development, and expanding the non-resident population.

● Mobile hydrogen station
In the aim of becoming a pioneer in renewable energy, Fukushima Prefecture is promoting the introduction of renewable energy. Hydrogen vehicles do not emit the CO2 that causes global warming when running, and pose no concerns about air pollution. This new mobile hydrogen station will enable the more convenient use of hydrogen energy more and will bring it closer to the lives of the residents. The station supplies hydrogen that has been created from the wind and sun in Fukushima.

● Unmanned robot tractor
The movement toward the establishment of “smart agriculture” to eliminate labor shortages, increase the area of land under cultivation, and reduce costs is growing. Working in collaboration with an agricultural machinery manufacturer, an unmanned robot tractor that runs under the supervision of an operator has undergone development and improvement, in addition to demonstration tests.

● Fukushima Robot Test Field
Fukushima Robot Test Field is a world-class research and development base. Here, researchers are able to conduct R&D, demonstration tests, performance assessments, operation training, and more on land-based, underwater, and aerial field robots which are expected to be used for distribution, infrastructure inspection, and in large-scale disasters in environments that simulate those in which the robots would actually be used.
