Products Promoting Fukushima’s Recovery

Akebono Brewery used to sell a product called ‘Heart Tenmei’. During the Great East Japan Earthqauke, 1000 bottles of Tenmei broke, and as the bottles used to store it were all the same, the specific contents of each bottle became unknown. After opening, blending and rebottling the sake, they sold it under the name of ‘Heart Tenmei’.

To refer to a quote on the Akebono Brewery home page, ‘As brewers of sake, we must use sake to brighten even one more person’s day in this world.’ We believe that a large warm heart is necessary to revitalize our home of Fukushima, and the Northeastern area of Japan. We also want to use our warm hearts to help those who lost family members and those important to them.

Furthermore, 600 Yen per bottle of Heart Tenmei sold was donated to the Ashinaga Fund to support Tohoku Earthquake/Tsunami orphans. Mr. Suzuki told us these efforts were part of his hope to remember those lost in the disaster and help contribute to the recovery of his homeland.

A truly heartwarming tale.

Along with Heart Tenmei, proceedings made from sales of a famous brand of sake called ‘Karousan’ (made using famous water and rice of Fukushima’s own Shinchi Town) are also donated to the same fund. Mr Suzuki said ‘I want to repay them for all the help they have provided use over the years.’

Each drop of Japanese Sake is the fruit of the workers’ labour, and all sake produced is full of the love and energy that has been put into the sake brewing process.
