Introducing Fukushima Prefectures CIRs

In order to promote the internationalization of Fukushima Prefecture, the International Affairs Division employs CIRs(Coordinator for International Relations) as part of the JET Programme. Currently there are two CIRs working in the I.A.D(one from China, and one from New Zealand), and in addition a third(from Canada) is working at the Fukushima  International Association.

Fukushima's CIRs help teach the world about Fukushima.

Favourite things about Fukushima:

・I love the expansive nature here and being surrounded by mountains. Its something you don’t see in Guangzhou

・In each region there are important sites deeply tied to Japanese history.

Favourite things about Fukushima:

・I love that between Hama-dori, Naka-dori and the Aizu region, each place you visit has its own unique charm.

・I love Fukushima’s traditional pottery and often end up buying it as presents for friends and family.

・I am impressed with the passion the people of Fukushima are putting into creating a bright future for themselves.

Favourite things about Fukushima:

・I haven’t been in Fukushima that long but, the natural scenery is very similar to Canada, so I feel at home here.

・I want to fully enjoy my time here while experiencing first hand Fukushima’s 4 seasons. In particular, I am really looking forward to seeing the beautiful Sakura blossoms in spring.

Li says:

It has been 7 years since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Seeing the people of Fukushima working hard at revitalizing the prefecture makes me also want to contribute to the revitalization projects.

Toby says:

Since I came to Fukushima I’ve been able to visit most places in the prefecture, discovering wonderful things along the way. I am really looking forward to visiting the places I’ve yet to go to!

Youki says:

・I want to visit lots of places throughout the prefecture and sample Fukushima’s delicious fruit and cuisine

・I want to support the revitalization process for the future of Fukushima.

In charge of

  • Participating in international exchange events run by municipalities, schools, and civillian organizations 
  • Introducing foreign culture through school visits, community hall presentations
  • Spread of information in foreign languages
  • Translation/correction of official chinese documents within the prefecture
  • Providing advice/support to all ALTs/CIRs participating in the JET programme in Fukushima Prefecture
