- Of the budget, 2.4 billion euros comes from commissioned research. More than 70% of the total research expenses are due to contracts with private companies and publicly funded research projects. Approximately 30% is funded by the German Federal and State Governments as maintenance costs.
※The Fraunhofer Research Institute is Europe's largest organization for applied research. With 75 research institutes in Germany, more than 29,000 researchers are conducting cutting-edge research related to a wide range of technologies, including renewable energy.
The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance, a research organization consisting of 18 research institutes of the Fraunhofer organization that conduct energy-related research such as renewable energy resources and efficient use of energy.

Signing of MoU
In February 2014 Fukushima Prefecture has signed an MoU in the field of renewable energy with the Fraunhofer Research Institute, which is the largest institute for applied research in Europe.
