Soma-Nomaoi is a traditional festival passed down for almost a thousand years.
The summer after the Great East Japan Earthquake, it was held even though it was scaled down
and has maintained the tradition.
Soma-Nomaoi has become an essential festival for the locals and there are those who still live with the horses just for this festival.
Kakidaira Sayaka (19) made her debut this summer.
Kakidaira-san was born in Shinchi, Soma and she has been close to horses since she was very young.
A woman can only join Soma-Nomaoi as a rider until age 19,
and for Kakidaira-san this would be her first and last participation.
A brave Sengoku picture scroll story unfolds in Soma-Nomaoi,
we depict the thoughts for Soma-Nomaoi passed down within the brilliant stage.
