Toyoshima Akira: The Youth of Fukushima
A wheelchair basketball player representing Japan at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
He managed to overcome difficulties after the earthquake, never giving up on his dreams
to win the ticket to the Paralympic Games.
How does he feel about taking on a challenge in the world as a representative of Japan?
It will be his second Paralympics, following the 2012 games in London.
He comes from Iwaki City of Fukushima Prefecture.
He began playing wheelchair basketball as a junior high school student, and joined the local team, "TEAM EARTH."
He began practicing seriously.
He currently plays for "MIYAGI MAX," a powerful team with eight consecutive wins
in the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Championships.
He has also attracted a lot of attention as an individual player, as a three-time winner of the MVP award.
