When I decided to participate in the tour, I had no idea what to expect. I simply kept an open mind. The tour was very informative. Particularly, visiting the Fukushima Agricultural Technology Center in Koriyama. Learning how agricultural products are tested was an invaluable experience.

We spent the Saturday evening at the Minshuku Okawasa farm in Kitakata city. The farmer and his wife were extremely hospitable. They prepared a big meal for us, and we had interesting conversations with them. We were supposed to do some farm work the next morning. Unfortunately, we couldn’t due to the rain, but the farmer showed us how they process rice after harvesting it.

My highlight of the tour was when we visited Aizu Sake Brewery History Museum. I didn’t know that rice is used to make Japanese sake.  It was fascinating learning the whole process of producing sake. For instance, rice washing, soaking, steaming, moulding and seed mash. I enjoyed sake testing very much.
