Welcome to Fukushima!

In Fukushima’s Hamadoori region is known for its fishing industry.Agriculture, the livestock industry, and horticulture is advancing in the Fukushima basin, and the Koriyama basin in the Nakadoori region. The Aizu basin located in west Fukushima is home to the largest plain in the prefecture, and is known for growing rice and making sake. During autumn in Nihonmatsu City, kiku-ningyou(chrysanthemum dolls)are put on display and a heavenly view of yellow flowers can be enjoyed. In the coastal city of Soma the traditional event ‘Somanomaoi’(An event where horses are raced while the riders wear sengoku era samurai armor)  is held every year, and many people from gather from far away to enjoy a thrilling time. If you head west along the mountain road you will soon reach the Aizu region. One of the most famous spots in Aizu is Lake Inawashiro.Inawashiro is the fourth largest lake in Japan, and is also one of the highest lakes in Japan. A collection of different coloured lakes(known as Goshikinuma) are also famous. It is said that the reason they all have different colours is due to the minerals that melted into the lakes after the eruption of Mt Bandai, the difference in retraction of light in the lakes, and the influence of different plants inside the lakes. Near the foot of Mt Bandai, one of the symbols of Aizu, lies the city of Kitakata. Kitakata Ramen is famous nationwide. Also sake brewing is famous in Kitakata due to the quality of the water and there are 2600 storehouses in Kitakata including those used for brewing Sake.
