Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Fukushima Prefecture has promoted economic exchange with North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany, which is an advanced region in the field of renewable energy.
In October 2019, when governor Uchibori visited Europe to hold top-level talks with the head of state of each overseas partner region, the Memorandum of Understanding with NRW was renewed and a new MoU was signed with the State of Hamburg, Germany and Basque Country, Spain, respectively. The mutual economic exchange is continuously been further developed and strengthened.
In addition, the Energy Agency Fukushima has signed cooperation agreements with renewable energy support organizations in the states of NRW and Hamburg, Germany, as well as in Denmark and Basque Country, Spain, in order to promote international economic exchange between companies in the field of renewable energy.
